Canning and Preserving: End of Summer

Our gardens and the farmer’s markets are awash with ripe fruits and vegetables right now. If you have never “put up” preserves, learn how!  Pickles and preserves bring summer to our winter meals and make lovely gifts to press into the hands of friends and family. Lori demonstrates how to make Bread & Butter Pickles, Peach Preserves, and canned whole fruits and vegetables. You’ll also get plenty of safety tips and guidelines for both water-bath and steam pressure canning methods.

In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn how to select knives, the difference between sharpening and honing (and how to do both), and knife safety. You’ll learn to hold knives correctly, use the guiding hand, and make basic knife cuts: slice, dice, mince, and julienne. Using these skills you’ll prepare a simple menu. Cooking School Grand Opening
Home Cooks Can Enjoy Popular Classes
and More at New, Convenient Route 9, Southborough Location

(Southborough, MA) – Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks announces the Grand Opening of their new location at 21 Turnpike Road/Route 9, in Southborough MA on Saturday, October 16 from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, October 17 from 1 PM to 4 PM.

The free event features cooking demonstrations at 11, 1, and 3 on Saturday and family cooking fun on Sunday. All are welcome to come and taste the kinds of food made in classes, meet the chef instructors, see the new kitchens, browse the retail area, and enjoy door prizes, samples, and giveaways.

“We have outgrown our former kitchens,” says Chef Lori Leinbach, Founder and Director of Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks. “We’re thrilled to have the space for bigger classes – both hands-on and demonstration. We can expand our offerings, bring in guest chefs, host team building events, and hold custom classes of all kinds. We also have space for a small retail area stocked with the kinds of kitchen gear we use in our school. Day and night we’ll be cookin’ up some serious fun at Culinary Underground.”

During the Grand Opening weekend, information about current classes will be available, along with convenient on-site registration. Guest chefs and regular teaching staff will be on hand to meet the public, talk about their classes, and review kitchen equipment available through the retail outlet.

The all-new Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks can be found at 21 Turnpike Road, on the westbound side of route 9 in Southborough, near the Southborough/Framingham town line in the Brickyard Square plaza.

About Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks (CU)
Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks is committed to furthering the art and craft of home cooking through engaging and educational hands-on and demonstrations classes. Using the best seasonal ingredients, mastering techniques, minimizing prep, and maximizing flavor are the focus of our classes. We believe that good eating and breaking bread with others are two of life’s greatest pleasures, and are at the heart of everyday cooking for family and friends. We share with our students a growing concern of what is in our food and where it comes from. To that end, we support small, local, organic farms and dairies, seek out area restaurants whose chefs cook locally, and invite those chefs, farmers, and purveyors into the classroom to share their knowledge and ideas with our students. Located at 21 Turnpike Road/Route 9, Suite E, Southborough MA 01772, the school was founded in 2004 by Chef/Director Lori Leinbach, an experienced educator and personal chef. The staff of four culinary experts teaches children and adults in small classes of 8-12 persons, Monday through Friday, daytime and evenings; special classes and events are also held on weekends. CU students of all levels and interests come from as far as CT, NH, and RI, as well as from Central and MetroWest Massachusetts. To register, purchase gift certificates, or learn more about Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks, visit www.culinaryunderground.com or call 508 904 6589.
