Celebrate the Month of May at Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks
From festivals to picnics, students of home cooking spring into new classes, sample great eats
(Southborough MA) – Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks is pleased to offer a robust lineup of festive cooking classes in May at the school’s new location in Southborough MA.
Mother’s Day Brunch
Sunday, May 1st, 10AM to 3PM; Cost: $75.00
It’s the worst restaurant day of the year: chefs and servers hate it, everything is rushed, and the food quality suffers. And, really, expecting your mom to stand and serve herself at a lousy buffet is a pretty cold. Show her how much you appreciate her by surrounding her with family and by giving of yourself. Make her an elegant, relaxed brunch this year – we’ll show you how!
Asparagus Festival
Tuesday, May 3rd, 6:30 to 9:30PM; Cost: $75.00
Did you know that asparagus is a member of the lily family? That fatter spears are tastier than thinner ones? That serving unpeeled asparagus is the lowest? Learn all about this much-anticipated vegetable – a harbinger of spring – and its versatility in a variety of great recipes.
International: Cinco de Mayo
Thursday, May 5th, 6:30 to 9:30PM; Cost: $75.00
Celebrate Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla! That’s what this day commemorates, and we will be exploring the cuisine of Puebla. It’s more than mole poblano – there are semita and chalupas and all sorts of nice things. We will be sampling some Mexican beers, too. Salud!
The Picnic Basket
Sunday, May 22nd, 10AM to 1PM; Cost: $75.00
Let’s revive the American picnic. It’s been eclipsed by the American BBQ, where the grill takes center stage. We sometimes prefer to just pack up a lunch and hit the road for a quiet spot in the mountains or a noisy one on the beach. Either way, leave the briquettes behind, kick back and enjoy the day.
“Celebrations abound in May, and we love to capitalize on the first spring arrivals from our local farmers and growers,” says Chef/Director Lori Leinbach. “From international celebrations to family picnics, home cooking in May really takes off, and we have great ideas to share with our students this month.”

About Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks (CU)
Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks is committed to furthering the art and craft of home cooking through engaging and educational hands-on and demonstrations classes. Using the best seasonal ingredients, mastering techniques, minimizing prep, and maximizing flavor are the focus of our classes. We believe that good eating and breaking bread with others are two of life’s greatest pleasures, and are at the heart of everyday cooking for family and friends. We share with our students a growing concern of what is in our food and where it comes from. To that end, we support small, local, organic farms and dairies, seek out area restaurants whose chefs cook locally, and invite those chefs, farmers, and purveyors into the classroom to share their knowledge and ideas with our students. Located at 21 Turnpike Road/Route 9, Suite E, Southborough MA 01772, the school was founded in 2004 by Chef/Director Lori Leinbach, an experienced educator and personal chef. The staff of four culinary experts teaches children and adults in small classes of 8-12 persons, Monday through Friday, daytime and evenings; special classes and events are also held on weekends. CU students of all levels and interests come from as far as CT, NH, and RI, as well as from Central and MetroWest Massachusetts. Additionally, great tools students use in class can be purchased at the new, on-site Kitchen Corner store. To register, purchase gift certificates, or learn more about Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks, visit www.culinaryunderground.com or call 508 904 6589.
